Dr. Michael Quackenbush

Dr. Michael Quackenbush graduated from Stetson University in 2010 and Southern College of Optometry in 2014. After graduation, Dr. Quackenbush joined the Hixson Eye Care team. In 2021, Dr. Quackenbush purchased the practice. Dr. Quackenbush is interested in all aspects of optometry with a focus on complex contact lenses and medical eye care. He is active in Hixson Kiwanis club and a member of both the American Optometric Association and the Southeast Tennessee Optometric Physicians Society. Outside the office, Dr. Quackenbush enjoys volunteering his time and expertise to the medically underserved in the Southeast Tennessee region and participating in mission trips to areas of the world outside the United States. He enjoys exploring Chattanooga and all the outdoor activities it offers. He lives in Hixson with his wife and daughter.

Dr. Alisha Niswonger

Dr. Alisha Niswonger, a native of Chattanooga, is delighted to return to the area and serve her hometown. Upon graduating from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with a B.S. in Molecular Biology and Chemistry, she moved to Chicago to attend the Illinois College of Optometry where she obtained her Doctorate of Optometry.

During her graduate studies she focused on a variety of specialties, including dry eye, specialty lenses, ocular disease, pediatrics, and primary care. While in Chicago, she volunteered with the annual “Opening Eyes” screenings for the Special Olympics, instructed a blind adaptive climbing team, and participated in medical missions to Haiti.

Dr. Alisha joined Hixson Eye Care in 2023 and feels blessed to be a part of such a special, patient-focused team. She strives to keep current with all optometric advances in order to provide the best individualized care for each of her patients. On the weekends, you’ll find her exploring the outdoors with her husband, cycling the Riverwalk, rock climbing, and enjoying quality time with her family.

Dr. Clayton Rhodes

Dr. Clayton Rhodes, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, is certified as a therapeutic optometrist. He graduated from The University of Tennessee in 1968 and from Southern College of Optometry in 1972. Dr. Rhodes began practicing in Chattanooga with his father, Dr. Albert Rhodes. In 1980, they expanded their practice into Hixson and moved into the present location in 1984.
Dr. Rhodes’s practice is primarily focused on medical eye care for those with diabetes, glaucoma, dry eye, chronic eye conditions, and acute emergencies. Professionally, Dr. Rhodes is active in the American Optometric Association, Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians and Southeast Tennessee Optometric Physicians Society. He has served on the boards of the Georgia-Tennessee Regional Health Commission and South East Eye Specialists. As a member of the Volunteers in Medicine organization, Dr. Rhodes is one of many doctors who has provided care to the medically underserved in the Chattanooga area. An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Rhodes enjoys hiking, bicycling, and swimming with his wife and daughter.

Dr. Rhodes has decided to retire in 2023. We are so thankful for the dedication and service he has demonstrated and will continue in his example.
