At Hixson Eye Care, Dr. Clayton Rhodes and our team are committed to providing advanced vision care in a professional and comfortable environment. Our primary eye care service includes a complete eye exam that analyzes eye health and vision function. In addition to eye exams and vision testing, our doctors provide testing for glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration. We also offers glasse, contact lenses, and pre- and post-operative care.
To ensure you receive a comprehensive assessment of your vision quality and eye health, your refraction and eye examination will be conducted utilizing state of the art computerized instruments. Contact lens wearers are ensured of precise assessments of their corneal health and lens prescriptions with the computerized corneal topographical mapping done in our office. Drs. Rhodes and Quackenbush are dedicated to providing accurate prescriptions, and more importantly, to promoting eye health.
At Hixson Eye Care, we diagnose and manage a wide range of ocular diseases from Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, Ocular Surface Disease, Diabetic Retinopathy, Foreign Body Removal and many others.
Although many people think a refraction is an eye exam, it is not. Nor is refraction part of a comprehensive eye exam. The refraction is a series of tests done to determine whether corrective lenses are needed and what the correct prescription is for those lenses, if they are needed,. Without a refraction, a prescription for corrective eyeglass lenses cannot be written.
If you have routine vision insurance, your refraction is probably a covered benefit. Historically, medical insurance plans, including Medicare, do not pay for refraction; however, some medical insurance plans, including Medicare Advantage plans, do provide coverage for refraction under the plans' well care provisions. Your insurance carrier or employer's human resources department can best advise you about your coverage and benefits. If a refraction is performed, there will be a separate fee charged for it.
Dr. Rhodes and the Hixson Eye Care team take even routine eye exams very seriously. During a yearly or bi-yearly examination, our Hixson patients will receive a patient history review, a series of vision and eye tests, assessments of eye focusing and movement, and an eye health evaluation. Our optometrist will discuss any additional testing that may be required to diagnose an eye disease or condition. Call us a today at (423) 843-2020 to schedule an appointment.

Laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, commonly referred to as LASIK, is a corrective alternative to glasses or contact lenses. Like glasses or contact lenses, LASIK is a method for treating refractive conditions including nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. At Hixson Eye Care, Dr. Rhodes provides pre- and post-operative exams for LASIK and other eye procedures. Call (423) 843-2020 today to schedule an examination to see whether you are a candidate for LASIK.
